T.G.I.F.
I am an administrative assistant for 5 people. Today, only one of them is in the office. I know a lot of people who would be at their wit's end with nothing to do for most of the day. I have to say, I am not one of those people. Wasting time doing nothing and still getting paid...now that's something that I can get behind while sitting on my behind! :):)

But seriously, it's nice to have a break from the mundane chores for a while and do something different like reading 9 Chickweed Lane.

Now that's what I call constructive!

Enough Complaints!
I don't want this Blog to become a whole lotta complaining about everything. So, I'm going to suggest a new show and some other things that I absolutely love in hopes that you too will grow to love them. :)

Queer Eye for the Straight Guy
I know this sounds weird. Five gay men take one straight, clueless dude and remake his entire life. They call themselves the "Fab Five" and travel around in a limo. I know what you're thinking: "How the HECK does this make good TV?" When I heard about this the first time, I wasn't interested at all. But then I heard the reviews, talked to some friends, and had to watch it! It's on Bravo, and it has to be the funniest new show that I've seen in a long time. In the last episode, they made over this guy and his apartment so that he could propose to his girlfriend. They truly brought out the inner diva in this man! At the beginning of the show, he was more comfortable in cowboy boots than Calvin Klein. By the end, they had this guy folding his sleeves into French cuffs while the Fab Five themselves watched the whole night with him and his girlfriend on TV from their Fab Flat shouting "Go, bro! More hand cream!" like he was trying to score the winning goal. Well,...maybe he was a little.... :):)

The West Wing
OK...I know this isn't a new show. BUT, starting August 11th, Bravo is putting it into syndication. Yep! That's right! So, if you missed it the first time around (I, myself, missed almost the whole first season), you can see it again! Where else can you live out the dream of a genius Democratic president who actually knows what he's talking about??

And that's all I have time for tonight. I will come back with more. Don't you worry. :)

Kimberly Miller
I almost forgot! Kim wanted to know when she was going to get a mention in this Blog. Well, here she is! I'll go into more details about her bio later. :)

The Line is Busy. Please Hold. Your Call Is Important to Us.
I didn't write anything yesterday because I was actually immensely busy at work. No one understands the data entry program that codes all the donors and volunteers for mailings and stats. Because of this, there are a huge group of people who work with the organization but are not listed in the main computer system. Then there's a group of people who ARE in the system, but aren't coded to get all the mailings. This week, my department realized that there were a bunch of people that they think are important who weren't going to get a report basically because of a data entry dilemma. Of course, I was volunteered to fix everything. The only thing is that the mailing was going out today. That meant entering in a whole list of people yesterday and creating codes and companies for them to be in. I know this sounds confusing. Believe me, it is. It took me all day to figure it out.

Today I spent most of my lunch break bitching about how much money they spend here on stupid things. I have never seen a non-profit that spends more money than they do here on non-program activities like lunch meetings. The money that they spend on food alone could quite possibly fund a whole other program for the needy. OY.

I also signed up for health insurance today. I have to become a resident of Massachusetts again. Just to change my license is going to cost me $90.

The price to change my license when I moved to New Hampshire: $35.

But it's 5:00!!! Time to go home!!!

Nothing
Ever get to that point where you forget what you were just going to do? Yeah...that's just what happened to me. I finished the entry before this one and just couldn't remember what I was doing.

I think that I need sleep.

Post-it Notes
I never really felt one way or another about sticky notes until the other day when they told me at work to write out 300+ of them and keep them categorized. I thought that once I wrote out the said sticky notes, that would be that. Oh no, I was mistaken. Today I got the job of re-typing the list of sticky note phrases dividing them into further categories. Oh joy.

After work, I went to my father's office....to do more work. My mom's in FL helping out my Aunt Collette by dog-sitting. When she's not here my sister and I have to do the payroll. Even more joyous.

Workaholic...Maybe...But not really
So, I work for this large non-profit agency in Rhode Island. You could probably figure out who I mean, but I enjoy being a little vague from time to time. :)

Right now I'm an administrative assistant. I am not being snooty when I say that I am over-qualified to copy, print, type and fetch food for other people. This is not what I got a Master's degree for, but it's a job for now.

Sometimes, however, I just want to say: "Take this job and shove it. I ain't workin' for you no more." (That's a country song -- I think). I hit that point last week when I had to write out 300 individual post-it notes for a meeting with a consultant today. I have a good idea about what they're using them for. The activity should take about 15-20 minutes. It took me probably 2 hours to write out the sticky notes.

There weren't any majorly idiotic tasks for me to do today. Most people are in a meeting right now and everything is quiet. Ahhh...silence. It just means that I have more time to play on the computer. I think that I'll go check out the Boston Globe now. :)

Weekend Wonderland
If anyone was in my hometown this weekend and couldn't find me, it's because I was hardly ever there. Let me give you the play by play.

Friday
My Memere's birthday. Went to dinner at her house, and brought a pie from my all-favorite place for desserts: Gregg's. Then I went to the mall to see "The Matrix Reloaded" on IMAX.
Hint for people going to see that movie: don't go without seeing the first one or at the very least looking up stuff on the internet. You will be totally and utterly lost otherwise.

Saturday
Traveled up north to Tyngsboro to see my friends JvB, Jen, Dolores and Morgan. We played some pool in Lowell. (We all pretty much need WAY more practice before we join the big leagues. Although, I blame my poor performance on the alcohol. ;-) and if you believe that one...) Then we went down the street to "Diva Night" at the local pottery painting joint. It was fun. We all picked a piece to paint and got tiaras and such to wear. There was food and drinks and lots and lots of laughing.

Sunday
Jen and Dolores stayed over my house Saturday night and we headed down to the Cape in the afternoon. We had grand plans to hear the Hyannis Sound sing in Provincetown. We love a capella and they're really, really good. Their website said that they were going to be there street performing, but we never found them. So, we walked around, got Ben & Jerry's instead (I know...such a sacrifice!), and headed back to Hyannis.

Finally, at 8:00 we got to see Mary Chapin Carpenter. Let me tell you, this was a GREAT show!!! I highly, highly recommend seeing her at any time. First of all, the music is excellent. Secondly, she's funny. And thirdly, she's my new female rock idol. I've been a fan for a long time, but this is the first time I've gone to see her in concert. I love, love, loved it. Truly a great performance.

Phew! That was my weekend! I know this looks like I'm always doing something, but this is sort of an unusual weekend for this summer. I'll have more updates about my work day as the day drags on.
